DASH For CASH— How Make the Most of your Hotel Occupancy Tax Funds (CEU Credits available)
The Panhandle Tourism Marketing Council is excited to bring to Amarillo, Texas a one-day workshop geared to Hotel Occupancy Tax Funds. The workshop will be held at the Ambassador Hotel, Thursday September 10, 2009 beginning at 8:30 am. This workshop will cover the proper uses of the HOT funds with panelists including Justin Bragiel, Deputy General Council, Texas Hotel & Lodging Association (TH&LA).
At the Texas Hotel & Lodging Association, Mr. Bragiel handles a diverse array of legal and legislative issues, including local and state hotel occupancy tax, hospitality law, regulatory issues, contract law, employment issues, and more. He edits TH&LA's newsletter, Industry Update, and is active in handling TH&LA's legislative affairs.
Bragiel earned a Juris Doctor from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law in 2007. Prior to joining the Texas Hotel & Lodging Association in February 2008, Bragiel performed legal services for American Airlines, estate planning law firms, and the Texas Attorney General. Previously, Bragiel worked in banking operations management for Bank of America in Austin, Texas.
Based in Austin, TH&LA is the second largest state lodging association in the United States, serving over 1,800 member businesses by providing operational, technical, educational, marketing and communications services, in addition to governmental affairs representation.
Other topics include making the most of your funds with presentations for the Texas Department of Agriculture & the Texas Plains Trail Region. Learn some creative ways to spend your funds and get some examples of what other communities are doing with their funds.
If you have questions about using your community's Hotel Occupancy Tax, need CEU credits, or just want a refresher, attend this great workshop in your own backyard. Panhandle Experience!
People from all over the Panhandle converged on the Ambassador Hotel on the last weekend in May for the first "Panhandle Experience," a tourism trade show designed to introduce residents to what the area has to see and do. Whether heading out for the day, or planning a weekend excursion, the Panhandle Experience highlighted the wonderful things available to do in our own back yard.
Entertainment included the TEXAS Musical Drama singers and dancers, the Kwahadi Indian Dancers, and the Beacons Bluegrass Band. Door prizes were handed out and new contacts were made.
Representatives of regional organizations and events greeted attendees. Guests could go on a real treasure hunt to find all sorts of interesting places and things to do in the Texas Panhandle. Find the mid-point of Route 66. Locate a Perryton lake voted one of the best “swimmin’ holes” in the state of Texas. Discover where there’s a cheeseburger festival, or the world’s largest bar-b-que, or ugly crust pies. Get information about our beautiful Palo Duro Canyon, and Texas’ only National Monument, Lake Meredith. Find your way to the musical “TEXAS”, or Cal Farley’s Boy’s Ranch.
Plans are in the works for the next extravaganza: Holiday Fun In Your Backyard. Check back here for dates. To reserve a booth, or for more information, contact Lana Barnett at 806.995.2127, or by email at texas.tours@yahoo.com.
